…so. I have reached a new low (or have I?) in not updating in over a year. I have all these half-written drafts that are just… half-written. And nowhere near completion anytime soon. So here’s another of those point-form overall dump-y type of updates. :’D;;

BJD: Work/Event

  • anemone has been rebranded to Ma Petite Cherie!
  • Actually achieved a very significant milestone of producing doll wigs! Only 3 styles in 4 colors and 1 size (21cm) for now but hey, it’s a really big start!
  • First time having a booth in an overseas doll convention (DollPaCa in Bangkok)! We timed it so that we could launch MPC and the wigs together
  • Went out on a leg with T to organize a doll event in Singapore: DOLLelong. It’s currently in the booth application stage. Really hoping it’ll work out!
  • Attended my first Dolpa in March this year! I was a little disappointed but it was a HTDP in Kyoto, so the scale was kinda small. I’m hoping the Tokyo ones would be much better!
  • Skipped the annual doll trip to Hong Kong in July this year due to budget constraints, unfortunately :(!
  • Decided to take on a fandom-related booth at SGDC this year (Touken Ranbu) but 4 costumes proved too much for me to handle after all. In the end, we did a no-show, oops. I learned a lot in terms of Japanese-style outfit sewing when sweatshopping the costumes though! Especially because I stupidly decided to try making them as historically accurate as possible.

Happy (belated) Birthday, Tsuyoshi!

It seems like I only take proper shots (read: non-Instagram shots) of dolls when it’s something important. With Tsuyoshi, he doesn’t even make it into my IG on a semi-regular basis, despite him being my absolute favorite. A few months ago on 29 January, I finally took one of him because it was his birthday, lol.

Happy Birthday, Tsuyoshi!I find that this sculpt is really hard to take photos of… I have no problem ‘bonding’ with him because I love his features very much and I can’t even imagine selling him away, but I just can’t seem to take good pictures of him. It’s always the same old angle and that’s kinda really boring? I also have no idea how I want to style him, even though he’s been with me for a few years… He’s been in this outfit since forever, LOL. *sigh*

I’m also still on the quest for the perfect wig for him. His hair is supposed to look like Maki’s in the following manga cover, in the same color and style:

Himitsu #11

While the color is common, the style isn’t. There are many short wigs with a long tapered tail but it’s that puffy fringe that’s the real problem here. Synthetic fibre just doesn’t sit that way…

Another example of the hairstyle as sported by hyde in Lies & Truth PV:

Hyde: Lies & TruthTsuyoshi’s wearing a DollMart wig in the top photo. The general puffy tapered shape is right but sometimes it sits weirdly on him. I have no idea if it’s because his head is on the smaller end. The color is too different too; the blonde is too light. When I tried a darker shade of the same wig on him, it looked like this:

Happy Birthdaym Tsuyoshi! (2014)I think it looks alright? It’s perhaps the closest to what I’ve been looking for that I’ve found. Recently, I managed to procure a Switch Chocolate Cut for him too:

Tsuyoshi in Chocolate CutHe looks rather different just with a wig change, doesn’t he? XD But this is also very different from the intended style. oTL I have one more wig for him coming in in my next Taobao order. Fingers crossed that it’ll work!

BJD Wishlist 2015

BJD Wishlist 2015

  1. Volks Konoe Ryoya: I used to really dislike this sculpt but lately grew to like him, surprisingly! Well, as long as his jaw is not obvious and he does not look like Gackt, haha. My plans for him are huge! I’ve already bought outfits for him and settled all the background/setting and stuff for this character. XD Little hint: He’s modeled after a certain Shinsuke.
  2. Volks Sui/Souseiseki: Still after her after so long… Her price is always just absurd, and it’s not like Volks would ever re-release her, since she’s a Rozen Maiden collaboration and all. I can’t quite bring myself to pay that kinda cash when she was released so long ago. :(
  3. Volks Maki Tsuyoshi: Yes, one more Maki head :x Volks has released SDGr Kei who’s a Maki ‘dupe’ but it’s just not him…………. /picky
  4. Unoa Zero: Order has been placed, YAY! It’s just great timing that Alchemic Labo decided to release the Zero girls again after the last order period in 2012, this time in Fresh Skin. It’s been a few months since the order, so I hope I’ll be receiving them next month in May, as written on the Unoa Freak 3 order chit.
  5. Volks Mamu: She’s supposed to be the last of my Yo seasons, Winter-chan. As always with what I like, Mamu also commands a pretty high price… Now that even Hinata has been re-released (in White Skin), I hope Volks will re-release Mamu again since it’s been a few years since the 2nd Makeup Version.
  6. Not listed: Bodies and faceups -A- this can just 随缘吧 |D;; Great news is that one of the artists I’ve been hoping to send my boys to ever since Geniever stopped taking faceup commissions will be re-opening faceup commissions in the next few months! I have so many boys I would like to send: Makoto (Saitou), Gin (Switch Soseo), Tsuyoshi (Maki) and of course Ryoya if I get him in time, LOL.

Biiiig Overall Update???

Hiiii, I know I haven’t updated in forever. I tried and I have so many half-written drafts about so many different things but yeah, I never completed them. :x So I’m just going to be reeeeally lazy and do a point-form update dump, which is mostly just new dolls, hurhur. |D;; I’ve updated the doll family page to reflect all the new dollies and newer (hopefully nicer) photographs of them too, yay. But the notable changes are mainly:

  • Shigure has a beautiful new faceup from Caroline of Viridian House! I loooooove her with the new faceup so much ♥ It’s to the extent that she’s taking over Natsumi as my favorite Yo… (/_\)Shigure
  • Rie now has gorgeous custom eyes from Enchanted Doll! I love them in her so much. ♥Rie
  • She also has a sleepy version, courtesy of Volks’ release of an official Okita Souji Romantic Glance version early this year. I won the full doll in the Volks lottery and appropriately received the winning email while I was in Tenshi no Mado in March, hehe. I really need to get her a new faceup because the default is so manly. :( Speaking of which, I’m also a little torn between sending Rie for a new faceup or not…Rie & SwD Rie
  • Kazama’s elder twin brother, Makoto, who was supposed to exist only in name has been brought to life through a Volks Saitou Hajime. :x Although they are supposed to be identical twins, I’ve never liked the thought of getting another Genji because I wasn’t sure if I could love both of them sufficiently. As it is now, I’m already not playing much with Kazama (though it could really just be due to his body having the terrible kicky old knees). However, if it’s a different sculpt altogether, I’m a lot more open to the idea of getting a Makoto. I was kinda undecided over whether or not to get Saitou, but then I saw owner pictures with custom faceup and thought he could really look like Kazama (Genji), so I decided to try for him when I saw a Saitou head at a reasonable price. :)Makoto
    On second thought though, I guess he does look more like a Ryoya than Genji but it’s not something I’m too bothered about. I’m sure that with a custom faceup, he can look similar enough to Genji!
  • Ayame got a new body! She’s no longer on the SD13 but on a Little Monica Harmony B body now. ^___^ Aside from the Leeke Bijou I used to own (my first BJD, btw), the LM body is the only non-Volks doll I’ve ever owned. It’s sooooo much lighter than a Volks body! @___@ Makes it a lot easier to handle.Ayame on LM Harmony B
    The body silhouette is beautiful, especially the legs, and the body is very stable too, even after changing the feet to high-heeled feet. The only gripes I have with it is that my girl can’t tilt her head upwards; she can only turn from side to side. The elbow joint also can’t fold all that much, unlike the SDGr body, though still better than the SD13. LM also doesn’t have option hands for the Harmony girl body as of now.
  • I managed to get one of my wishlist dolls some time back! Late last year, I think?? ^^;;; Who is she, you say? It’s a Volks Michele! Her name is Chitose/千歳. :DDDChitose / Volks Michele
    I haven’t played with her much at all despite her being a super wishlist dolly, because I haven’t managed to give her a custom faceup yet. ;___; I’ve been trying to get a slot with the faceup artist but I never seem to be able to score a slot in the email lottery, and I’ve been trying for almost a year already… And well, now she’s closed indefinitely .____. Maybe it’s a sign that I need to find another artist. -___-;;;; She’s wearing the ED eyes (Milky #10) I won in the ED photo contest early this year. ^^ She’s supposed to have purple eyes but I’m not sure if this pair is a little too light, and I can’t really judge until she has a custom faceup too. T_T

Mmhmm, these are most of the dolly things I’ve been up to this year. Which isn’t much, right? Haha. Well, that’s because I’ve been pretty busy with school, no thanks to final year projects. If you still remember my booth anemone from SGDC last year, we just had the second installation a week ago. We won Best Booth Display! ;) I’ll write about that again some time later… Hahaha. :x

Singapore Doll Carnival 2013

Since the death of The Doll Affair (TDA) a couple of years ago, there hasn’t been any brave soul willing to venture into organising another local doll event. My best guess is that the local doll community seems too small for an event to be able to break even. However, some time back on 10 November was the inaugural Singapore Doll Carnival!

My previous experiences at doll conventions have always been just being part of the audience or even volunteered as a volunteer of TDA. However, I’ve entertained, on and off, thoughts of setting up a booth ever since I went to Dollism Plus conventions in Hong Kong. Even though it must entail a whole lot of hard work, I thought that it looked pretty fun too. The first problem was that there was no longer a local platform to do it, and the second, as well as the biggest challenge to me, was coming up with products to sell.

While I could probably throw together a costume for cosplay (if I were to work really hard), I wasn’t confident that I could produce something of good enough quality that people would be willing to shell out cash for. But of course, if I don’t try, I would never know, right? Plus, I’m probably at the peak of my interest in dolls right now. If I don’t do it now, I probably never will…

And so I did! I bit the bullet and sent in my booth application form on the last day before applications closed, lol. The booth name, anemone, was sort of thought up last minute too, so it’s a good thing that I didn’t end up regretting my choice. XD;; Inspiration came (obviously, to those who know me) from one of my favorite Larc en Ciel songs, anemone.

Anyway, so that gave me about 4 months to design the booth display and products, material sourcing and actual production. Obviously, me being me, the bulk of the work was only done in the last 2 WEEKS (seriously, self?????) before the actual event. To be fair (to myself), the designs of stuff were roughly settled in the first 2 months, except they weren’t completely finalized till October. -__-; The bulk of the materials arrived 10 days before the event and a separate package for it 2 days before, HURHUR. I think you can see what this is leading to, lololol. Yah, okay, product-wise, I didn’t get to do majority of whatever I had planned. But on hindsight, I think I was too ambitious anyway.

Continuing on, T, who was helping me with the display, and I were working literally right up to the event itself. Day and night didn’t exist anymore; either you were awake or you weren’t. ‘Erratic sleeping hours’ is a gross understatement. Anyway, we were horribly, terribly late for the event; SGDC was scheduled to start at 11AM and we only just stepped out of my house to go to the event venue at 11AM. It was at that point that Ivory, a friend and fellow booth owner, texted saying that the event got pushed back a little and doors would open at 12PM instead. HOLY MOTHER OF GOD, THANK YOU KAMI-SAMA. Of course, on the way, we had to find out that tree pruning on the expressway was being carried out, resulting in slow traffic -__- And that there were 3 other events also happening at the same time at the event venue, *scape, so the car park was full. T____T In the end, we parked at Cineleisure instead. Good thing it’s not that far from *scape, and that it wasn’t raining!

We ran up lugging everything and upon entry clearance, began to set up the booth.

It actually wasn’t really completed yet so we were still working on it even when the event started. ;__; Which was why the setup looked pretty sparse in the beginning hour or so.

We spent a while more making ghetto clothes hangers out of wire and figuring out a way to put up the gold photo frames that we had prepared earlier. The item tags with the prices were also ghetto-ed on the spot. XD;;;

This is the final booth setup! Notice the additional gold frames on the wall, clothes on the rack (display only though), item tags, and mini gold frame with the necklace on the table, LOL. I also put up the iPad with the promotional photo of Rie, as well as namecards for anemone.

The original plan was to put handbags on the ‘glass’ panel of the rack but I couldn’t make them in time. -__-;; So I substituted them with perfume bottles instead. I think they fit the overall mood and look better in the end anyway. ^^;;

The items for sale were a pearl accessory set consisting of a hairclip, necklace and bracelet, and another necklace with a coin pendant, flower lace pendant and a diamante.

Although I didn’t manage to do everything I had planned, I’m still happy with how it turned out. We even got third place for Best Booth Display, which was a big and pleasant surprise to top off the day. ^__^ It was hell to do up everything but I’d do it again. Here’s hoping there will be a SGDC 2014 this year! :)
