2016

…so. I have reached a new low (or have I?) in not updating in over a year. I have all these half-written drafts that are just… half-written. And nowhere near completion anytime soon. So here’s another of those point-form overall dump-y type of updates. :’D;;

BJD: Work/Event

  • anemone has been rebranded to Ma Petite Cherie!
  • Actually achieved a very significant milestone of producing doll wigs! Only 3 styles in 4 colors and 1 size (21cm) for now but hey, it’s a really big start!
  • First time having a booth in an overseas doll convention (DollPaCa in Bangkok)! We timed it so that we could launch MPC and the wigs together
  • Went out on a leg with T to organize a doll event in Singapore: DOLLelong. It’s currently in the booth application stage. Really hoping it’ll work out!
  • Attended my first Dolpa in March this year! I was a little disappointed but it was a HTDP in Kyoto, so the scale was kinda small. I’m hoping the Tokyo ones would be much better!
  • Skipped the annual doll trip to Hong Kong in July this year due to budget constraints, unfortunately :(!
  • Decided to take on a fandom-related booth at SGDC this year (Touken Ranbu) but 4 costumes proved too much for me to handle after all. In the end, we did a no-show, oops. I learned a lot in terms of Japanese-style outfit sewing when sweatshopping the costumes though! Especially because I stupidly decided to try making them as historically accurate as possible.

OOTD: 100513 || 100% KPP!

One of the Fridays last month was Kyary Pamyu Pamyu’s stop in Singapore for her 100% KPP world tour! I attended the live with T and another friend, and this is what I wore. :D

Yellow x pink is such a cheery combination!

If you haven’t been following my Twitter (which I’m sure you haven’t), you will realise (maybe) that I have pink hair now! Actually, these photos were taken about a month after I did my hair and the color had already faded a significant bit. The top layer used to be a beautiful rose gold and the inner layers a mix of pink and peach.

Look, I had the same hair color as Natsumi! XD

I loved the color of the top layer; it was a color I really wanted. It’s such a pity that it had to fade so fast. -__-; I wasn’t as enamoured with the initial turnout of the inner layers but as the colors of the inner layers faded, I started to like it more. It’s the color I would choose if I ever were to purchase a lolita-style wig for sweet lolita, LOL.

It came as a surprise to a lot of people that I only had to bleach my hair once to achieve this color. Even I’m surprised myself, considering how light the colors are now. It took me a lot of courage to make the decision to bleach my hair and the whole crop of hair at that, but I figured that if I were to play with hair colors at all, this is probably the only chance and time I would have.

Luckily, the damage to my hair wasn’t as bad as I had feared it would be! In fact, now that I condition my hair everyday and try to use a hair mask semi-regularly (read: once every 1-2 weeks), my hair seems to be in better condition than before I had bleached it. ^^;;; It’s almost miraculous, hahaha.

If you’re interested, I did my hair at Hairloom. The coloring was by Peter. The stylists are really dedicated (we stayed waaaaay beyond the closing time of the salon. No hasty job here!) and I highly recommend them!

OOTD: 220412 & Afternoon Tea at Arteastiq

Went out in lolita today, gasp! I think the last time I wore lolita was back in January in Japan. =__=

I met up with A and Teresa for afternoon tea at arteastiq tea lounge at Mandarin Gallery. I really like all of our outfits today because we look so old-school, LOL. A and I were wearing old-school Moitie and Teresa in classic Mary Magdalene and Innocent World. ♥ It really reminded me of why I was attracted to the style in the first place.

No pictures of the others because I feel strange posting their outfits here without permission but here, have mine instead!

Old-school gothic lolita!

Blouse, JSK, headdress, socks: Moi meme Moitie
Shoes: Metamorphose

The lighting was crap so you can’t really see the flocky print on the JSK but it’s the Rozenkreuz JSK in black that I got in Japan back during the January trip. The socks I’m wearing are matching Rose Cross socks with the same print on the back. You can’t see the print in the picture here though ^^;;

If you find my hair color extremely different from what you remember, it’s because I just went for coloring again a few days back! The lighting made it look terribly yellow but it’s really more of a light caramel brown in real life:

Liking this hair color a lot!

It was my first time at arteastiq today! I had the French Rose tea set and Autumn Beef sandwich. The latter was really yummy; I really like the beef, cheese and tomato combination.

French Rose tea & Autumn Beef

I had the French Rose tea because I missed the taste of the Diana Rose tea I had at Swallowtail butler cafe. It wasn’t as fragrant as Diana Rose but it was still pleasant. I’ll probably try something else the next time I go back, though.

Lolita 30-Day Meme: 10 things about your lolita bubble

Except I’m not going to do all 30 days because I’m lazy. Just because.

Day 1 – 10 things about your lolita bubble.

Assuming this just means 10 random facts about how I feel regarding any part of the lolita fashion pertaining to me…

  1. I dabble in a bit of everything.
    Style mish-mash!

    No, really. I like gothic, sweet, classic, casual, whatever. There’s a different sort of beauty in every style, though the gothic lolita style appeals to me the most with its elegance and simplicity. Otome-kei isn’t lolita but its simple sweetness really appeals to me too! As such, I tend to purchase a lot of Emily Temple cute and Moi meme Moitie.

  2. Border prints = ♥!
    I prefer border prints a lot more to tiled prints. More often than not, tiled prints just end up looking so messy to me :( I think this is my OCD complex speaking, lol.

    Ironically, my most-likely-to-be-favorite dress, the Stained Glass print from the BTSSB x Koitsukihime collaboration, is a tiled print instead of border. 壁]・_・`)

  3. Pockets

    C’mon, do I really need to elaborate on this? Practicality calls even when one is in frills! Angelic Pretty deserves much, much points in this aspect.

  4. I rarely buy stuff first-hand.

    Simple reason: Too expensive. Of course, there’s also the fact that I just seem to prefer the ‘old-school’ stuff in terms of design most of the time, so I guess it sort of works out? Although, in the case of the lolita fashion, secondhand stuff aren’t necessarily cheaper due to rarity and other factors, so it’s a bit ambiguous.

  5. Religious motifs and prints
    I know it’s going to be a tad sacrilegious to devout Christians and/or Catholics but I really adore religious motifs and prints, even though I’m a free-thinker. There’s always something really beautiful about them that I can’t put into words. By default, this makes me an instant convert of Moi meme Moitie, lol. I still lust after Juliette et Justine too, but somehow, I’ve never even owned a thread of JeJ even after so many years.
  6. I don’t actually like wearing it.
    ‘It’ being lolita fashion. Ironic, isn’t it? But it’s true! I mean, it’s so uncomfortable with all these cumbersome layers, Singapore weather is always unforgiving, my hair keeps going flat all the time and… well, yeah. It’s uncomfortable. :( The only things keeping me in this are the fact that I still haven’t gotten everything that I want, and friends who share this same interest.
  7. I think hair things and hosiery are super-essentials in lolita.
    These are items that should be present in almost every lolita outfit, in my humble opinion. It just doesn’t look complete without them, so I can never really understand why people would choose to forgo either. Sweltering heat, yeah, I totally know, but look, I still wear my socks even in forever-summer Singapore, so what’s your excuse?
  8. I absolutely hate traveling in lolita.
    And I’m not even talking about cross-country sort of traveling. I mean regular getting from Place A to Place B within the same country. Why? Because after so many years, I still hate people gawking at me. I can’t decide whether sweet lolita (not deco-loli) or gothic lolita garners more attention but the bottomline is that I just don’t like it. And I don’t think I’ll ever get desensitized.

I can’t think of anything else to write on *sobsob* So it shall be 8 things about your lolita bubble instead of 10!
